iRinger: No Jailbreak, iOS 5 and iOS 6 tethering
There is an app on the App Store that has a little secret to it. It has a method to access a hidden view in the app to set up personal hotspot. Normally, you need a plan from your carrier that comes with hotspot support but with this app, you can tether with the 2GB plan on Verizon for example which doesn’t support tethering. Now, a while ago, there was an app designed only for tethering that Apple allowed and shortly afterwards pulled from the App Store. Since that event, there have been a handful of apps with secret tethering. To name a few, there was a rock, paper, scissors app and tapping in certain order would give access to the hotspot page. Another, more recent app, was BSOD Reaction Time, which mimicked Windows XP blue screen of death and again, tapping UI elements in a specific order brought out the hidden page. Now this app, iRinger, has been on the App Store since February 2013 and hasn’t been noticed by Apple. So, how do you access this hidden page? Follow these simple steps:
1) Make a new event (top right corner)
2) Name it “Tethering123” without quotation marks!
3) Click done
4) It will bring you to the magical page of wonder
If you are hopelessly confused, like I was, don’t worry; there are well written instructions included on the hidden page!
My thoughts on what are dubbed “hidden tethering apps”: I think it’s pointless since once Apple finds out, you’re developer account is terminated and you’re out $100. Now unless you’re “Lavish“, I don’t think anyone wants to lose $100. And I doubt Apple will pay you what you earned from sales from that app. My video review of this app can be seen here, and don’t forget to enter my giveaway
